1. Classic Moist Chocolate Cake

Ingredients:

For the Cake:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

For the Chocolate Buttercream Frosting:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

 

Instructions:

For the Cake:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the boiling water to the batter and mix until it’s smooth. The batter will be thin, but that’s okay.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then remove them from the pans and place them on a wire rack to cool completely.

For the Chocolate Buttercream Frosting:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, sift together the cocoa powder and powdered sugar to remove any lumps.
  2. In a separate bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy.
  3. Gradually add the sifted cocoa powder and powdered sugar mixture, alternating with the milk, and beat until the frosting is smooth and fluffy.
  4. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Assembly:

  1. Once the cakes are completely cool, level the tops if needed.
  2. Place one cake layer on a serving plate and spread a layer of chocolate buttercream frosting on top.
  3. Place the second cake layer on top and cover the entire cake with a generous layer of frosting.
  4. Decorate the cake as desired, with chocolate shavings, sprinkles, or additional frosting.
  5. Slice, serve, and enjoy your classic moist chocolate cake!

2. Rich Chocolate Fudge Cake

Ingredients:

For the Cake:

  • 1 and 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 and 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

For the Chocolate Fudge Frosting:

  • 1 and 1/2 cups unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 5 cups powdered sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions:
